Sustainable Urban Farming Progress
Perhaps the most honest coverage of Mayor Rogero's urban farming initiative is at the Mercury:
Keep watching this blog as we spot and share more locations for urban pioneers to plot their nourishing, sustainable garden plots. Break the chains of corporate slavery! The city just cleared a block in Happy Holler at W. Anderson and Wray that is just begging for tents and crops.
In a lonesome corner behind Knox Rail Salvage where East Depot Avenue dead ends at the high concrete wall of James White Parkway, a little over a half-acre of land sat for years, an odd grassy area surrounded by the hardscape of downtown. The hardware store that once stood there was torn down in the mid-2000s to make way for the parkway construction. Now it’s the site of Old City Gardens, the city’s newest, and closest-to-downtown community garden, which had its ceremonial ground breaking Friday morning.by Eleanor Scott

Deannexation: Knoxville Declares Solidarity for the People
Knoxville votes to oppose 21st century white-flight.
Time was that when the Lilly-white elites caught a fear of Brown people, they had to pack up and move to the hills, or what Ron Kuby has dubbed "Whitelandia." Now the capitalist puppets in Nashville wish to make white-flight effortless, by having the elites opt-out of city taxes while continuing to receive the benefits of already installed infrastructure.
Infrastructure that was built with the blood, sweat, lives, and tears of the inner city workers. Not to mention tax money taken from the poorest of the poor.
Update: The fascist plan was killed in committee.

Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and all but one member of the City Council have authored a letter opposing a state bill that would allow residents in a handful of Tennessee cities, including Knoxville, to vote on leaving the city and becoming part of the surrounding unincorporated county. In fact, the city opposes this deannexation bill so staunchly it even underlined “strongly opposes” in its letter to state lawmakers to drive home its message. - Clay Duda, Knoxville MercuryPraise Comrade Rogero and her valiant stance for the workers!
